How Do I Migrate To Distil: GoDaddy

Last Updated: Jan 15, 2014 09:48AM EST

Migrating Your Website to Distil Using GoDaddy DNS:

GoDaddy provides an easy to use and understand DNS system.  Migrating your GoDaddy domain is a simple process that involves two steps:
  • Change your CNAME record for www.website.com to point to a CNAME provided by Distil
  • Change your A Record entry for website.com to point to an IP provided by Distil

Pointing your CNAME to Distil's Network

  1. Log in to your Account Manager
  2. Next to Domains, click Launch
  3. Do one of the following: a) From the Tools menu, select DNS Manager and then click Edit Zone for the domain name  you want to Update.  b) Click the domain you want to update, and, in the DNS Manager section, click Launch.
  4. Go to the Zone File Editor for the domain you want to route through the Distil Network.
  5. Find the www entry for www.yourwebsite.com . Go ahead and add the hostname provided to you by Distil during the Add Domain process in the portal.  This is usually in the form of www.yourdomain.com.distil.us
  6. Set the TTL value to a reasonably low number ~ 5 minutes or so.
  7. Click Ok
  8. Click Save Zone File, and then Click Ok.

Pointing your A Record to Distil's Network

  5. In the A (Host) section, click the A record you want to edit (yourwebsite.com).
  6. Edit Points To to point directly to the Distil root domain IP address provided to you during the Add Domain phase in the Distil Portal.
  7. Save Zone File
  8. Click Ok.
